Berserk (1990) Discussion

So, I know it's been around for 22 years now, but who here hasn't had their fill of Berserk? Also, what do you think of the religious undertones of the manga? I happen to think it's a satiric view of how people allow themselves to follow the church blindly, how about you?

Berserk is one of the best Seinen Manga series' out there. The story is huge and the art is more or less the best I've seen in manga (along with the art of Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond)

Also, I'm used to pronouncing him Gatts. (Or the most simple one: Guts)

Guts makes more sense when you think about it... he has guts to do what he does and he spills guts hehehe

Definitely Guts. It makes sense considering where he was found as a child, almost as if the mercenaries were making fun of him saying that he is nothing more than guts.

Haven't read the manga but I watched the anime when I was very young, probably around 12 years old. Loved the action though I remember being terribly confused by the last couple episodes.

I should really give the manga a read, and the show another watch.

Oh, and Gutz.

I've not read the manga nor seen the anime series but watched the Golden Age arc ova..is the anime series and manga any good? The ova ending was very sad so i'm guessing the entire berserk series is equally depressing? Kinda like Evangelion?

Berserk has gotten a little less depressing recently but it's still hella depressing

There's been a bit of a refreshing bout of it recently. Not only has the relatively uplifting streak that Serf mentioned been continuing; there's also a huge upheaval in the setting, temporary shifts to other characters with a sunnier disposition, and the fact that we got past a big hiatus so we're likely to continue have a monthly release for a while! And to top it all off, the completed seven chapter one-shot/graphic novel, Gigantomakhia, that he released is brilliant and a great distraction from the wait for new chapters.
