Marvel's Fresh Start (2018 "Relaunch")

Post by Lex Talionis »

So Marvel is attempting something similar to DC's Rebirth, all the books get relaunched with a new #1, and most of the characters will go back into their classic looks and interpretations, for better or worse,

in other words just your typical "Relaunch all the books and replace the creative team every 5 minutes" schtick that's been going on for a decade

Sounds a bit crazy to me when they have just been through months of legacy where most books went to a numbering system of "total comics published in any volume" somewhat like DC did for just two, Action Comics and Detective Comics.

Now they are going to dump all that?
Did Legacy not go well with sales?

actually they are planning to use both systems on the covers,

for example:
Amazing Spider-Man #1 (#801)

and apparently Legacy didn't meet expectations

The problem is that realised that "New #1 every 12 issues" was awful, but then VASTLY overcompensated too much the other way.

New volumes annoy old readers. Large numbers frighten new readers. Hopefully this new numbering system is the middle ground we need.

And then a coupe of years pass and they still haven't committed themselves to what is and isn't still canon yet, and then it all gets swept away and it all becomes moot.
