it's just that the supernatural aspect of your book has some similarities to Shaman King,so I was wondering if you got some of your ideas from there

Nope, no connection. The supernatural elements of the book come from Navajo culture, and Arthurian Literature. Totems come from the Christological belief in purgatory and that the idea that if you pray for someone you send them closer to Heaven and out of purgatory. I loosely used that premise to tie the Totems to Earth, and then have the spirit take on forms of various fantasy creatures from different mythos, cultures, and religions based off of who was using it and to what end.

I guess both you and Mr.Hiroyuki Takei were simply drawing from the same well of mythology :-)

It's entirely possible, I never claimed to be original. :)

I'm up to chapter three

Spoiler: show
it's nice to see Adeline getting some narrative for a change

Mordred seeing the damage done for himself was particularly touching (the scene in Jerusalem especially)

the Institute getting further explored (funny how it never got closed down despite the various legal and moral violations committed there)

also,poor Anna

Book three is really where the girls get their shining moments, so they have much larger parts in this.

I was terrified about that Jerusalem scene, I'm glad you liked it though. I was hoping it came across well. I in no way wanted to glorify what had happened, and it took me ages to get it right.

I'm glad you're liking it so far!

now up to Chapter Eight:

Spoiler: show
so many things are going on in favor of the resistance,it almost seems too easy

so many awesome moments happened so far,Adeline's reunion with her family and her promotion to "the Voice of the Resistance" being one of them, but Mordred's "interrogation" scene really takes the cake

I'm so glad you're liking it so far! I have to admit, I think this is my favorite of the cycle.

Don't worry about things going too well for the resistance for too long. It doesn't stay like that. :-)

up to Chapter Thirteen

Spoiler: show
and holy mother ! and here I thought Mordred couldn't get anymore badass,he even accurately described both Cei and Alexandrov in just a few words and got control of the KS,not bad for an ex-coma patent/presentlly living corpse

Cei had his moment too, leading the charge against Alexandrov that's made out of resistant groups from all over the globe while riding a goliathian norse dragon

fucking A man

Wow, you're flying through this. :D

That Cei/Alexandrov description moment was actually a lot of fun. Writing Alexandrov was truly a pleasure with this book, mainly because you see him in all his glory for the first time. You get glimpses of him in the other books, but you finally see him in this and I loved showing him.

Cei has always been a hothead, but he's a powerful one and I was hoping that came across clearly in that scene. ^_^

Tristan however is a great foil for him.

<3 this really is my favorite of the three books.

Alexandrov kinda scares me,he doesn't seem like your average dictator, the kind that hides in some undocumented location under their bed whenever things get too hot, eventually collapsing from sheer paranoia

Alexandrov is almost like a supercomputer made flesh

He's meant to be a bit threatening. :-) When you see his final scene I want the audience to have a very strong emotional response to it. Everything's building up to that final moment. But he is in no way one-dimensional, and this book finally shows that.

After what seems like a million years since it was given to me I've almost finished the first book - sorry I've been so slow, I've not had the time to sit and read but putting it on my phone has helped speed things up. I'll see about getting through it this weekend and adding some comments if they're wanted.

Oh wow, there are phone copies now. Shit just got real.

I would love to hear your comments, thanks!

And take your time, there's no rush at all. It's given me time to finish the trilogy.

Are you enjoying it, at the very least?

been reading it on my 4.3" tablet between classes and before bed ever since Book 1,which does in fact speed up the process

I'm up to Chapter Sixteen

Spoiler: show
somehow I always knew this would come to this: a Cain and Abel-type duel, and I honestly don't know who to root for, seems like the only sane and logical people in this series are non-Institute members

the scene when Mordred is confronted by the others over Anoki was satisfying

still no sign of Anna
