Based solely on their debut as Spider-Man: who was the better Spider-Man in the first film as the character? So Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man (2002) Vs. Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) who was the better Spider-Man and why?

Andrew Garfield for me, his interpretation was more modern, interesting and believable. Maguire's problem was that he made a convincing Peter Parker but a very unconvincing Spider-Man; I think Garfield pulled off both.

good question

2002's looks and acts more like the Mainstream version in the beginning of his career (but nothing like the modern Mainstream version),2012's looks and acts more like the Ultimate version

my main problem with the 2002 version is how much of a social pushover he is compared to 2012

both have their pros and cons, which I don't have the energy to list, but I ultimately prefer the 2012 version largely because he has more social backbone than the 2002 version

I have to go for Maguire's, for the same reasons that Lex mentioned... Spiderman, to me, will always be that socially awkward kid (then again when I got into spiderman it was with the 60s and 70s run... the modern stuff I only read much later). Garfield's just too... cool? I can't see him as a nerd. He carries a skateboard around?!

Tobey Maguire

Garfield was one of the worst actors I've ever seen. The Uncle ben death scene in TASM was horrible. Even if the movie had been good (it wasn't, I really hated it), his performance would still have been horrible.

Why the hell do you even watch or read anything comics related then? Everything is shit or the worst or not done properly. Are you just a masochist and like to punish yourself?

I haven't seen the latest one myself. The sheer garbage of the third film made me finally swear off Spidey flicks until Carnage gets in one.

Good comic movies that came out the last few years:
The Avengers
Captain America
The Incredible Hulk
Thor
Iron Man 1 & 2
X-Men First Class

Great comics (that are ongoing or that recently completed, not a complete list):
X-Factor
Avengers Academy (I'm really going to miss this)
Fantastic Four/FF
Wolverine and The X-Men
Uncanny X-Force
X-Treme X-Men
Uncanny X-Men (well, not counting the Mr. Sinister issues)
X-men Legacy (before Marvel NOW)
Avengers: The Children's Crusade
New Avengers
Secret Avengers
Journey Into Mystery
Green Lantern/GL Corps/GL New Guardians
Batwoman
World's Finest

So, yeah, I like a lot of comics and movies. Just because I hate Nolan's Batman movies and the new horrible spider-Man movie, doesn't mean I hate comic book movie stuff (or comic stuff). Heck, I liked Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3. It just seems like only superhero movies that Marvel is directly involved with can be good recently. If DC would drop Nolan (he may be done with Batman, but I'm pretty sure he worked on Man of Steel), they might be able to make a good movie (although there track record is pretty bad, atleast in recent history). Hating three comic book movies (TASM, and Dark Knight/Rises [Begins was not great, but it wasn't horrible]) does not mean I hate superhero movies, just like how hating 90% of DC's New 52 doesn't make me a comic book or DC hater, it just means that I think the current management, and most of the writers, are idiots.

If you get the Blu-ray version of The Amazing Spider-man and watch the deleted scenes the Uncle Ben death scene that wasn't used in the film is alot better then the one actually used.
