The theme for this September' themed books has been confirmed, and the fancy covers are back.

DC Source blog wrote:
Following the overwhelming success of 2013's “Villains Month” 3-D motion covers, DC Comics is bringing the technology back this September! Spinning out of the events of the new weekly series THE NEW 52: FUTURES END, comic books will leap 5 years into the future! This fall expect the books to have even more depth and motion than before!

Dan Didio @ Newsarama wrote:
All the lenticular covers — all the Futures End stories that will be told in September — will be in the titles of the ongoing series. The covers now will also have the ability to have a 'flicker' effect. That means that the images change and show the transformation going on. … There is a level of change that is taking place with our characters during the course of this story.

What it does is it gives you a chance to reset the line a little bit and see where your strengths and weaknesses are. And if you look at what we did, we launched the New 52, which re-established the heroes in a new direction, voice and continuity. That's where we started.

So what we've done is… we've looked at the heroes, we've looked at the villains, and now we're looking toward the future.

Ultimately, what you're going to see is the potential of where the futures can be going. And also, I'd like to say, what direct impact it has on stories set in the current timeline in the DCU.

Not sure what to make of another epic crossover across all titles, not sur eI can be bothered getting all of them, I certainly didn't bother with all the villains issues, even the ones in books I regularly collect.

Not to mention I'm way behind on my DC stuff at the mo, haven't even started Lights Out yet, only just halfway through Forever Evil.

Ahh, who am I trying to kid, I'll no doubt grab the Futures End issues related to Earth 2, Worlds Finest, The Flash, Red Hood and the JL and GL titles. Will just have to hope it doesn't spiral to far into other books I don't have the time or money for.

Marketing Department: "They actually went for it! This gimmick cover thing is a gold mine! Saturate the market!"
The 90's: "Uhh, remember us?"
Marketing Department: "Oh, right... Give it a year. Then EVERY YEAR."

Not a fan of them skipping ahead five years - when no writer but Snyder will be on the same book.

This is the new series debuting on Free Comic Book Day featuring the Batman Beyond character in his New 52 debut.

On one hand I wanted to get it because, well Batman Beyond is my favorite Batman.
On the other hand a friend who read it already told me :

Spoiler: show
Frankenstein goes all evil and chops off Black Canary's head and sews it on his chest giving him a sonic chest beam whenever he opens his shirt to reveal the gruesomeness.

So that type of story just doesn't appeal to me.

Bummer :(

Turns out you're probably right. They've advance solicited all 41 of the books (plus 3 weeklys means they're up to 53 for September) but left off details of the creative teams.

So how are they doing this? Are they releasing 52 issues in a month?

That's the way it has been since the New 52 started, they've put out roughly 52 ongoing books a month. For this event each of the current ongoings are being replaced by one-shots focusing on those characters in the Future's End continuity (still not convinced it's not an alternate universe).

Yea, I can't get into this series. I think they're adding too many characters and arcs that makes it a clusterfuck. The build up is slow and there hasn't even been anything to grab you. It's been uninteresting. 52 was good because it kept it short and sweet.

#0 was so good, I loved that issue I think it was my favorite issue of free comic book day. The thing with the series is that it's so slow! Nothing interesting has happened and they keep bringing in characters that I don't frankly care about. One of the main reasons I'm reading this is for Batman Beyond, who I thought was going to have a bigger role in the story, but he hasn't done much in the series. I'm considering dropping it since it's taking too long for the build up, but by September I feel like it'll be a better series. If anything this would've worked better as a short story arc, than a full on series.

i'm only really reading the main title.

cool concept, but they are dragging it along a bit with too much filler.

Agreed. I'm sticking with it but wish they would start moving things along a little quicker!!

And I'm only going to get the Batman: Futures End tie in, I think - sticking to my normal buys!

So if you only get the 'tie-in' issues that were on your regular pull (i.e. Batwoman, Aquaman, etc.) is there any point to actually getting the tie-ins? Will you be at a total loss without the main series?
