I got back into Spawn a while ago. I remembered the series from back when I was younger. I really like how the artwork is done. Can't say I'm a big fan of where the series is currently going.

i've always been a huge fan of spawn. It started when the first movie came out and i soon became obsessed with it. I then started watching the very short animated series, which then preluded me into the comics.

i'm still waiting for a spawn 2 movie to come out lol

Oh the vampire story was kinda neat that happened after issue 100. And I actually loved the Curse of the spawn series

I use to love spawn in the early 2000's, but meh, its kinda lost track for me with the whole nature thing being the true "god" or whatever, I lost intrest.

So I just read that Cerebus (in my backlog of shame) was in a very early issue of Spawn (issue #10). It was supposedly a heavy handed commentary on creator owned comic book characters. McFarlane invited the 4 top names he could think of to each guest write an issue; Alan More, Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman, and Dave Sim.

Code:

Did his involvement with Spawn contribute in anyway to Dave's downfall as a writer. We all know he was pretty passionate when it came to politics and religion. He don't give a fug he says what he wants. I mean, Cerebus was a top-selling comic in the 80's. It was the fugging Iliad, the Odyssey of comic books. He was seen as a forerunner, someone ahead of everyone else. Now? He's barely mentioned.

He is the people's champion. He fights for your freedoms.

As far as I'm aware timeline wise. Spawn season 3 was canceled. Story issues stemming from copyright law suits(cogliostro(hence merlin), Angela(hence Tina), and Medevil spawn) over character ownership. Same reason Angela wasn't "Really" in the movie.

Personally I am a die hard spawn fan. I still read it, and collect everything I can comic wise. It's really strange, but a lot of the offshoots(spawn the undead, angela, violator) all get mixed into the story and are essentially continuations of where the character was. I enjoyed that they were essentially companion pieces that could be stand alone stories.

I really want a spawn godslayer animated series. That off-shoot was beyond epic and I think with the huge fantasy fanbase out now, it'd actually stand a chance, compared to people assuming a new spawn would be as bad as the last(in my opinion). Look at what happened to Dredd. I'd be afraid they would have the same issue.
