ComingSoon.net has your first look at Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing") in the new RoboCop suit! Filming started today in Toronto and you can see the updated design below.

Directed by Jose Padilha, the August 9, 2013 release co-stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. From Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Columbia Pictures, the film was written by Josh Zetumer and Nick Schenk, based on the 1987 motion picture written by Edward Neumeier & Michael Miner. The film is produced by Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, with Bill Carraro serving as executive producer.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Why does he have one human hand? It makes no sense.

They amputated all his limbs in the original. It's not like he needs fingerprints or anything. They deliberately try and make him an unfeeling machine, I don't get it. Also I think the costume is a bit shit with the plain black.

There's a decent bit of criticism on the suit. A lot of people say it looks like a reused Dark Knight suit. Maybe they're gonna add in some effects to it later? Though that'd probably look even shittier. I didn't even notice that he had a human hand until you pointed it out. . Maybe he took the glove off for some reason? Could be an inbetween shots photo, and he took it off? I do hope he looks better than this when it's all said and done. I did like the first Robocop, with today's special effects, this one should be spectacular.

I love the original robocop, I think it's a fantastic film and still stands up even now. Out of all the remakes I feel this might be the most unnecessary of them all.

I agree any post production edits on the suit won't help.

looks like a black Iron Man suit,I don't mind it much through I'd appreciate if they added more contrast, like a gold police badge or something, original suit is still the best.

spray paint it orange and its the perfect looking suit for metroid...i think the producers/designers mistook robocop for metroid.

Looks like they're doing a head shot there so prob just took glove off as not needed.

Suit does look very uninspired & generic there. Doesn't appear to be a CGI/motion capture suit either so looks like that might be it folks.

Just noticed that there's some pretty well known names on the cast list: Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Clive Owen, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Keaton

yeah I'm pretty surprised by the high powered cast. Maybe it won't be so bad.

I'm very curious to see this, and really don't expect much. I think the director has to really pull off some magic to top Verhoeven's film.
