Does it matter? I just want you to suggest some good punk rock bands that you think are good enough for me to listen to.

I don't follow the current punk scene, but old-school bands I would recommend include: the Adverts, Angelic Upstarts, Bad Brains, the Boys, Buzzcocks, the Clash, the Damned, Dead Kennedys, Descendents, GBH, Government Issue, Husker Du, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Pere Ubu, the Ramones, the Ruts, Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Skids, Sleater-Kinney, Stiff Little Fingers, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Toy Dolls, UK Subs, the Undertones, Wire, X, X-Ray Spex, and Zounds.

Yes it does matter. Some people would call New Found Glory, Sum41 and Blink 182 punk rock, whereas others would call Rancid, Distillers and Less Than Jake punk rock... Very different styles.

I would recommend Less Than Jakes older stuff; Pezcore through to Borders & Boundaries. Rancid, Distillers and Transplants are all a bit more punk. Jesse James are good but they're a lot more Ska Punk. If it's a bit more of the New Found Glory style you like then I would say the first couple of LIT albums were pretty good.

Ok, lets get deep.

Try the Pixies dude. They are some FAR OUT punk. Weird edgy stuff.
Try the Violent Femmes as well.

Bad Brains and Black Flag are maybe the best punk bands.

I am just curious what makes a band a punk rock band? Like I have always wondered what makes them that exactly?

i personally like irish type punk rock bands. you probably already have listened to the clash, other perhaps like flogging molly and dropkick murphy's are good. Sex pistols are also pretty cool i think, although they really only have one cd.

Hardcore punk bands to check out: The Exploited, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Rise Against, AFI's early stuff, Discharge, The Casualties to name a few.

A nice wee punk band i like from the 80's too called The Adicts, kind of softer sound but catchy and great band.
