The Bouncing Souls always make me happy !
Leftover Crack and Chocking Victim for the black metal they put in their punk, and their commitment to anti-world trade and gay community !
Bad Religion 'cause they almost invented backing vocals !
Rancid, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards !
Against Me, the first albums, specially Reinventing Axl Rose !

And all the old ones, mostly The Clash, one of the best band in the entire music history !
Bang !

From all the bands posted here, I would sincerely recommend The Clash. The best punk band in history of this type of music. Words of lyrics are pretty much the same in punk bands today, but the melody of their jam represents step back from the traditional sound and bold leap forward in the new music waters. Recommended by all means.

Hives Hives Hives Hives Hives Hives Hives
Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones

I think that's about the only actual punk I listen to but I freaking LOVE those two bands so ... :D

Answer -
That you are here. That life exists, and identity.

That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

Pennywise is a good punk band though they get a bit political, the stooges, MC5, and Richard hell and the Voidoids for some classic punk, I mean if you haven't heard blank generation your missing out on some great music.

Would XTC be classed as punk?, I remember first listening to them during the original punk era, I also liked 999, Clash etc. My favorite band from that time was The Stranglers, not really punk but great anyway.

My favorite subject. Just off the top of my head:

Proto-punk bands:
STOOGES
VELVET UNDERGROUND
NEW YORK DOLLS
MODERN LOVERS

NY and CLEVELAND 70's punk:
PERE UBU
TELEVISION
RICHARD HELL
DEAD BOYS
RAMONES
PATTI SMITH
SUICIDE
JOHNNY THUNDERS
HEARTBREAKERS
DICTATORS

UK late 70's punk:
X-RAY SPEX
BUZZCOCKS
UNDERTONES
MAGAZINE
DAMNED
JOY DIVISION
WIRE
PIL
CLASH
ADVERTS

80's underground:
MISSION OF BURMA
HUSKER GU
BLACK FLAG
GERMS
AVENGERS
DESCENDENTS
GUN CLUB
ADOLESCENTS
AGENT ORANGE
SONIC YOUTH
BAD BRAINS
MINOR THREAT
RITES OF SPRING
REPLACEMENTS
BEAT HAPPENING
HAPPY FLOWERS
FLIPPER
CIRCLE JERKS

I could go on and on! As always the term "punk" can include many distinctions...not *just* loud fast music (I consider Beat Happening punk).

Speaking of punk, old school punk , i believe Oswalt pretty much mentioned all of the best up there!!
Now coming to Punk Rock,though...i pretty much got some ideas:
(Lot of them are not exactly only Punk Rock but wtf??...Some hardcore in it wont do any harm!!) :

Pennywise, Bad Religion, Strung Out , Rise Against , NOfx , Satanic Surfers, Offspring(oldies) ,Good Riddance, Millencolin ,downset. , Municipal Waste ,Beastie boys ,Propaghandi(....the best) , Agnostic Front , Anti-Flag , Ignite ,
Dog Eat Dog , Suicide Machines, Suicidal Tendencies.......
Cant remember what 'Snapcase' was??...More of a hardcore band i think!!... :( im getting old!!
...haven't heard any for a long time ,im pretty sure i can make that list a lot bigger!!
...these were my mp3 lists when bmxing!!...Missing those days :?
...Hope It helps!!
