Last week-ish I posted some of the things that pist me off about Comicon. So I went to this little convention in the meantime. Admission was entirely free, no celebrities but there were a few creators. Mostly indies, but Jeremy Haun (Batwoman) was there. Although Jeremy was showing off mostly his indie work, too (Bad Karma, with B. Clay Moore).

Well, I spent $200USD. But instead of getting one autograph and a picture with a celebrity (which is what it would have cost to get Nathan Fillion's autograph and pic) I got these instead:

The Complete Maus, deluxe hardcover
JLA: Justice for All
Rose, a GN by Jeff Smith/Charles Vess
JSA: Return of Hawkman
Batman: Bruce Wayne Murderer?
Doctor Atlantis (Rare Earth Comics)
Omac Project (Rucka/Saiz)
Superman Batman: Generations II (John Byrne)
The Invisibles, book 1 (Grant Morrison)
Birds of Prey: Dead of Winter (Gail Simone/ Nicola Scott)
Secret Six: Six Degrees of Devastation
Secret Six: Depths
Uncle Sam & the Freedom Fighters (Gray/Palmiotti)
Archnemesis: volume one Sinners & Saints (Dark Horse Comics)
The Legend of Isis: Beginnings (Alias Comics)
Superman/Batman: Torment , hardcover
Superman: No Limits
Shazam: the Monster Society of Evil
Superman: For Earth

AND
A poster sized print from Jeremy Haun of Batgirl/Barbara Gordon, issues #29 and 30 of Batwoman (signed), and two sketches and a smaller print by independent artist Mario Mora. (Mora has a GN coming out later this year, checkitout!)

So, I had a lot of fun at the smaller convention. Free Admission, more relaxed environment, cool artists.
It doesn't have to be a Super-huge-a-Con and cost you three digits to get in the door. 8)

I want to go to the SDCC. I'd only go to look for comics and trades. I'd like to check out a panel but I heard some people wait up to 8 hours! Fuck that.

I'm in LA, so we get some cons around here. There's one in Long Beach coming up in Sept. as well as Comickaze coming up. As long as I don't have to buy online then I should be going. Almost had an incident for Wondercon.

FYI, none are free. :(
