I use the nook tablet and frankly I think it's excellent. There are occasional size issues but with the right comic viewer, those are easily overcome. And ipad would probably be the perfect size for comics, but frankly they're just too bulky and heavy to suit most of my other needs. The nook however works perfectly.

Just to say that I tried Perfect Viewer (For my 7" Pocket Book IQ-710) and it's great. Takes a while to learn where to touch in the screen in order to use it, but I've been reading comics for a couple of months with it, and for now I don't want anything else.

By the way, for desktops I found out about YAC (Yet Another Comic book reader)
Very intuitive and fast... and free... Have a go

I don't know if it's the "best" but I've got an Asus Transformer and it's pretty damn great.
