First off, let me say that the best animated feature starring Superman is still All-Star Superman. Superman vs the Elite is still worth watching for fans of animated superheroes in general or Superman specifically. The plot, based on Joe Kelly's characters and story from the Action Comics series, revolves on a new group of superheroes called 'the Elite' who are powerful in the extreme with no Code of Conduct staying their hands from slaying the villains. Of course this leads to the climactic conflict with Superman who believes that no one, even the super powered, are above the law.

In the two-disk set the first disk (beides the feature film) you get a special preview of Batman: the Dark Knight Returns Part 1 (awesome!) and a photo gallery of the live action Batman movie both due out later this year. Not bad, and now I'm psyched for the Frank Miller classic as screened by Bruce Timm & Co. I don't mind that it is coming out in two parts a la Kill Bill because that just means they won't cut as much of the original storyline as they sometimes have to for time constraints.

The second disk has a behind-the-scenes bit with the Elite creator Joe Kelly that I found very likable albeit too brief and two "Alan Burnett picks" from Superman TAS. I don't know why they choose two episodes from the Tim Daly days instead of feature voice actor George Newbern (both are stand out voices for Superman, in my opinion) but I suppose they were thematic as both stories are of the "What drives Big Blue's Code of Morals" variety. The episode with Maxima "the Warrior Queen" is the second one.

If you already have Superman TAS, then there is not much on the second disk for you. Save a few bucks and get the single disk feature. If you're a fan of TAS or a completest then feel free to go for broke.

I'm starting to miss the DC Showcase short movies that come with some of these features. Looking at the sales for the movies that did contain them I suppose the producers feel they don't make a difference in overall sales.

Get this movie if you are a fan of animated superhero films. A fan of Superman in particular. Bruce Timm & Co. do not disappoint their fans here.

Just watched it. Hat is hilarious. Would like to have seen some character development in the ranks of the Elite. No back-stories aside from Manchester's doctored version. But, I'm a Marvel man. Maybe their histories are explained in the comics.
