One of my favorite Marvel characters is the Richard Ryder Nova, who died saving the universe a while back. But now I'm seeing art with Nova, from the Avengers Vs. X-Men series, which I haven't been following all that much. So the question is: is Nova alive again?

I'm not quite sure of how this works as it hasn't been explained yet to my knowledge, but I don't think he is Rich Ryder. It has been suggested that he is the 616 comic equivalent of the Nova appearing in USM animated series.

I find it weird, because I was under the belief that when Rich disappeared the Nova force and the Worldmind went with him. Thus all existing members of the Nova corps at the time lost their powers too.

According to the website Nova Prime Page the new Nova is confirmed as Sam Alexander (from USM animated), but for the life of me I haven't seen any explanation as yet for how this has come to be.

Edit:
Apparently I've just read that they are holding off on his origin for now, and just throwing him into the thick of the action first. Hopefully the origin will then live up to expectations.
