I went to the movies this weekend as we only had one kid with us and we decided to go see Percy Jackson instead of Shutter Island and we were pleasantly surprised.

Percy Jackson is the story of a half blood (sound familiar?) that learns he's more than what he believes he is. It's part origin/part quest/part war movie. If you've read Harry Potter then alot of this is going to jump out at you as somewhat of a take on that however I will say this much, because of the themes involved, it can't be helped. Still, with that said there's enough of a twist on the themes to make this story stand on its own and not want to make you want to beat someone.

Add to this some star players in the cast: Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Rosario Dawson (just to name a few) show up on the screen and light it up.

The younger cast make the movie and unlike another trio we know, these guys aren't 'best mates' almost immediately, it takes a bit and Percy has to grow a spine.

Enjoyable for sure!

the movie is connected, but it kinda distorted the books. It is a good watch if you dont mind things to happen slightly differently in the movie to the book.

the similarities to HP are obvious, but I thought this movie was way funner, for that lack of ethos. sometimes movies are way funner knowing nothing about them going in.

This movie is a huge steaming pile of hollywood crap that honestly should have never been made. the book series is amazing and follows a CHILD who is trying to discover who he is and who is father is for most of "the lightning thief".

The anabelle & clarisse characters are combined into one shitty amalgam of who gives a rats ass warrior chick, instead of being herself, and, well...she just sucks.

3 things missing: fight with ares in the desert, anabelle's awesome hat of invisibility, and three: any semblance of a fucking story.

so lame.

i watched it last week , and i can say that was a waste of time. It was full of geographical and continuity mistakes which aren't even funny. I should have understand how craappy the movie is, when he finds out his best friend has legs of a goat.
