Green Lantern: Baptism of Fire
197 pages. Ron Marz writing, with Darryl Banks, and Paul Pelletier drawing.

This book will introduce to readers the sometimes "forgotten" Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner. It focuses on his earliest days as the newest Green Lantern. In it, we will see the first meeting between him and Wally West/Flash, and how they almost became enemies instead of allies. Also, Kyle takes a "tour" of Earth's greatest heroes to try and learn from the best. He actually walks up to Batman during the Dark Knight's midnight patrol and asks him for "hero tips". We'll also see Alan Scott (a.k.a. Green Lantern/Sentinel), John Stewart (a.k.a. Green Lantern/Darkstar), Donna Troy (a.k.a. Wonder Girl), Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Adam Strange, and the Darkstars. The ultimate threat mad guy is hidden in shadows for most of the book, but it wouldn't give too much away to say Kyle will have to face a danger on the scale of Darkseid.
The writing was awesome and really got me into Kyle as a GL. He really is a cool character. Pelletier's drawing was more then decent and considering the age this book came out ('95-'96) would have been considered one of the better artists of that decade.
Reprints GL #59, 66, 67, & 70-75. Cover priced at $13 and well worth it.
