Why did Gerrard do that?

You're the captain of your football team. You're subbed on to calm the nerves of your young team and to build confidence and composure. It's your last match at Anfield against United. You then go and do that. Sent off under a minute. You put incredible pressure on them instead.

People are actually making excuses for him. He's done stupid things before in the past but I honestly thought he had matured. Love him but all in all, it's the right time to go. I think fans will be okay with it now.

Even at his age I reckon he was too hyped up (last game against the old enemy) & desperate to impress (after missing out on most of his farewell season). He ended up costing Liverpool the match and probably a Champions League spot (now relying on other teams to do them a favour).

As a neutral though, will Stevie be remembered as the great that he is or has his image been forever tarnished by that slip and stomp? That's what hurts. I like banter in general but some of the stuff you read online by non-pool supporters with regards to Gerrard is so venomous. Frigging ABLs when will they learn.

Mad kudos to Sideshow Bob though. He was everywhere doing everything right. Gerrard and Skrtel banned for the next few games. Apparently Sterling/Lallana/Sturridge injured (I think this is just Liverpool mediaplay though). The worst thing is having to wait 2 weeks before the next game after coming off a loss like that.
