I like Discharge pretty well. I haven't heard the rest of the groups you mentioned. I will have to check 'em out. A friend told me about Doom and loaned me the "Fuck Peaceville" CD. That's just crazy! So I got some of their other stuff and "Total Doom" is far and away my favorite.

Hi, everyone, I'm new to this topic, but I've been listening to metal music for 20 years now and I thought I could get in the conversation as well...
Here's some of my all time death metal favorite bands:
Death (USA), Nocturnus (USA), Massacre (USA), At The Gates (Swe), Gorefest (Hol),
Carcass (Eng), Arch Enemy (Swe)...
and there's more recent good bands like The Absence (USA?), Demonoid (Swe?), Arsis (USA), Bloodbath (Swe)...
Have a go! There's plenty to choose from
See ya!

My picks would be more old-school in nature - Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Krisiun...

Nice to see so many metalheads here!

8) 8) 8)

I recommend The Agony Scene. I don't think you should bother with their newest album "Get Damned", though. I didn't like it much. Also, As I lay Dying, Beyond Fear, Carnifex, and Children of Bodom. Some of those aren't pure death metal, but they're still awesome.

Far too trendy ;) Cant stand the attitude of those new Deathcore bands, tho there are as usual a few exceptions.

COB put out one decent album and that was Hatebreeder. As good as the musicians in COB are, they rather should learn how to write good songs than just fiddling arround with guitars without any point.

I see but even though thats what defines them I haven't heard of a death metal band where the singer doesnt sing with a growl or raspy voice.

morbid angel, possesed & obituary are fairly weak, as far as the vocal growlyness goes. id go as far as saying that they are comparable to slayer more so than some people like mortician, dying fetus, bloodbath, nile, carcariass, misanthrope, cryptopsy, cumbeast, demonoid, edge of sanity, gorod, hypocrisy, illdisposed, six feet under, martyr, necrophagist, origin, psycroptic, sadist, spawn of possession, vehemence, visceral bleeding, vomitory, blood red throne, dissection, hearse, skinless.

^^also my recommendations.
i tried to neglect to mention as many "trendy" bands as possible since i read your not into that i also omitted duplicates, except bloodbath, demonoid, hypocrisy and illdisposed because i really like them.

however the double exception is vehemence i have almost 100% confidence that you wont like it being that its terribly "emo" but "kill for god" is one of my favourite death metal tracks, lyrically its very uplifting and "black".

"I should take this moment to thank you for helping the world to see
How religion is to blame for the end of humanity"

also their song "god was created", it has similar themes, but teaches the listener to believe in themself, something i feel strongly about ie how religion is to blame for the end of humanity

"I am my own savior"

heres the "kill for god" song

again, sorry to make this about vehemence but i really *really* like them, apart from the emo shit.

Whitechapel hast nothing to do with Grindcore, musical and attitude wise, its simple trend music.

If you want to listen to Grind listen to bands like this:

Trend meaning that "Deathcore" went really big in the last 2 years and has a quite trendy fashionstyle coming along with it

Theres nothing wrong with the live performances of those bands... i am just not cool with the attitude and scene kids that come along with it... besides that the music sucks
