Anybody watching the new Constantine series? I have only seen the first episode, but I have to admit that, much like the film, I enjoyed it in spite of my expectations. While neither can really approximate the dark, pastoral, and undeniably British, sensibilities of the original comic run, I thought it was fun all the same. I am rereading the books now and my hope is that this will remain an entertaining companion while I do so. I'll watch episode two tonight. I'd love to hear anyone else's thoughts on any of the above. Cheers.

Unfortunately, it's airing on Amazon Instant Video in the UK, & I am NOT subscribing to yet another service! I already pay for Sky, Netflix & a TV license so I'll have to wait for it to hit a terrestrial channel before I get to see it.

Maybe. ;)

It does look good, though.

I am now current on this series (three episodes) and I continue to enjoy it. Much like the sadly cancelled Almost Human (FOX), I find it exceedingly easy to overlook the shortcomings inherent with network television series. As far as the format, it reminds me quite a bit of X-Files in the sense that there are clearly cannon episodes and also monsters of the week as well. Unless they really screw this up, I will be watching the rest of the season. The ratings are modest overall, but good for the time slot and trending upward.

I've enjoyed the series so far. At least they are making more of an effort to stay true to the premise of the comic book than that movie! :D

Yeah but it's not cancelled - the 1st season is just ending at episode 13. We won't know until the new season announcements (usually in January) if it's been cancelled or is getting a second season.

Fingers crossed!

It wouldn't be a surprise to see the ratings drop tonight because of the Thanksgiving holiday and Black Friday nonsense, but Constantine has continued to grow its ratings through last week and I suspect that will continue. As DW said above, NBC has stated that this is not a cancellation, but they have to say that or they risk losing viewers that hear it's been canceled. That said, if the ratings continue to improve, maybe it'll defy the odds. Personally, I bet it is felled at the zero hour much like Fox's Almost Human. Unlike that show, however, Constantine probably doesn't have a terribly high production cost so I could see this as the kind of show that gets resurrected elsewhere.

Unlike Almost Human, episodes of Constantine appear to have been aired in order.

But yeah, I have dropped shows before watching every episodes, due to cancellation. So I can understand their fear in stating outright. However, saying it this way might get more people to tune in with hopes to sway it onto a second season with higher end-of-season ratings.

Though they are only half way through...

Glad it's not just me! I seem to do that quite a lot. ;)

Good point. I will keep watching, of course, and I hope others do as well.

I was really enjoying Constantine. I still don't know if NBC's going to bring it back, or if they're moving it to SyFy as rumored. Has anyone heard anything?

I do hope that this show continues as I was enjoying it, maybe not as much as shows like Gotham and The Flash but it was still good compared to most of the rubbish on the TV now.

He'd probably do it for free... He's such a pro-comic book TV guy.
