Who was the best lead singer of Black Sabbath? Ozzy or Dio? And why did you choose who you chose?

I picked Ozzy cause I am a big fan of his music and I felt his singing voice went very well with Black Sabbath.

Ozzy.

Can't recall many Sabbath songs w/ Dio as lead that I actually liked.

It ain't Black Sabbath if there is no Ozzy. Dio is awesome and all but in his own right.

Dio is very good but they were more groundbreaking with Ozzy. Tony Martin, Glenn Hughes, and Ian Gillan are outstanding vocalists as well. Perhaps Glenn Hughes has the strongest voice of anyone to have ever appeared on a Black Sabbath release.

All the props in the world to Dio but Ozzy is Sabbath and Sabbath is Ozzy. The only real substitution I've ever liked was Tony Iommi after Randy Rhodes and that wasn't exactly optional :ghost:

I'd be more inclined to say Tony Iommi is Black Sabbath. Those first five albums with the original line-up are magical.
Heaven And Hell is a bona-fied Metal classic as well.

I agree! Iommi was the one that kept the band going all through the years. As far as singers go, I don't think Sabbath has ever had a bad vocalist. They even had Rob Halford for a show in the 90's I think.

Dio is OK, but Ozzy freakin' blows him away. I LOVE old school Black Sabbath.

Has to be Ozzy. Although the last couple of Ozzy albums were surpased by the first two Dio albums. Even the Ian Gillan fronted Born Again album is a better Sabbath record than Technical Ecstasy. Don't forget Glenn Hughes, Seventh Star is one of the better non Ozzy/Dio Sabbath albums. And the two Iommi/Hughes albums (1996 Deep Sessions / Fused) are more Sabbath than most of the late 80's and 90's stuff.

Dio is great but Iommi and ozzy built there styles off of each other so it's always gonna work if ozzy's in sabbath.
