After seeing so many positive things (reviews, articles, etc.) about this I thought I'd finally give it a go. Turns out it was a waste of £2.60 and 15 minutes of my time.

Did nothing for me storywise, had vaguely any memorable characters, did have a little bit of interesting world building but that was it's only saving grace. Some of the art made good use of page layouts but the overall style wasn't really for me either.

Needless to say I won't be picking up any more issues of this series.

It's received good reviews because Kelly Sue DeConnick is writing it, and she always writes strong female characters. Without reading it, I know this is a book about women, and could guess it had good reviews.

Bendis could write a terrible Ultimate Spider-Man and it would get positive reviews, because people want to like what writers have proven they can write well...

As soon as I heard "Bitch", I knew it was one to ignore. "Ooh, an indie book with a shocking title - yawn."

I picked the first issue up on Comixology on one of their promotional offers for the grand price of £0 but nothing I saw in that first issue made me want to pick up any further ones.

Well, I reckon you can leave out the "always" there ace. I couldn't make out any strong characters at all in this one, female or otherwise.

I'm just repeating what I've read. I don't think I've read a Deconnick book properly. I tried to read Captain Marvel, but couldn't get on with it. Bland, generic and with more forced "Girl power!" than the Spice Girls.

I think this is the first book of hers that I've read and if this is a 5 star example of her work I doubt I'll be picking up anything else.
