60's. Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard. I'm old skool...

I would go for the 80's as the best rock era, but that's when I was a teenager... :-)
Had I born in the 40s and I would probably choose the 50s or 60s. But one thing is for certain. There's no rock songs like the one's from the 80s, especially hard rock ballads...

Examples:
SCORPIONS "Still Loving You"
CUTTING CREW "I've Been In Love Before"
HEART "What About Love"
CINDERELLA "Don't Know What You've Got ('Till It's Gone)"
...and so on

I think 80's was good too some of the best songs were from those bands you put as examples but also Poison, Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue and more.

The 70's were best for progressive rock (Yes, Rush, ELP, etc.)

The 80's were definitely best for hard rock (Guns N' Roses, Whitesnake, Van Halen, etc.)

Hear hear. especially when you consider the gods, aka SABBATH, QUEEN and ZEPPELIN. But my personal favourites also owe a lot to those years for giving me the Eagles, Boston, Kansas, Bowie, AC/DC, Foreigner, Metallica, and Blue Oyster Cult, among many many others. All amazing. Some 60s music like the Beatles, the Zombies, Hendrix and Cream I'd also include, but the 90s did little to nothing for me ... the 70s and 80s were rock's heyday decades, bar none.

Answer -
That you are here. That life exists, and identity.

That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

The late sixties to early seventies. 1972 was the best year for me personally. This period had classic Who, Rolling stones, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Clapton and did I mention Clapton? I still listen to artists like Can and CSN&Y and marvel at the talent of that era. Forty years later you can still buy the Incredible String Bands whole catalog, but try to find Nenah Cherry or Barry Manilows early stuff. (not that they were bad or anything. You just have a hard time finding them)

"Duuuuuucks on aaaaaa POND..." *ding*

I always thought of them as the folk version of JJ72. or maybe the JJ's were the rock version of ISB...
