Is there any chance you've already considered how empty of plot the two Beatles movies mentioned happen to be?

Spoiler: show
Yep, good chance. I can excuse the ones the Beatles are actually in b/c they're not (nor are they trying to be) professional actors or movie producers. And honestly, those films weren't intended to be real movies so much as they were, like ... extended music videos. They were more a chance for fans to see them and hear their songs in different visual settings and to give the band another media to promote their music through and show people who they were, rather than what you watch for an actual movie experience. Neither movies you mentioned tried to put on this pretense of offering a serious movie plot and followed it up with poor attempts at adding political and social depth within the "story" by briefly and spastically touching on random issues from the 60s. Across the Universe had no focus, with too-short an attention span to develop anything it introduced.

I understand if those involved with AtU wanted to make an artsy and interpretive Beatles appreciation film featuring their songs in a visually stimulating way. Whatever, doesn't matter, that's fine by me. It just bugged me that they pretended it was more than that.

But hey, clearly some people like it. And I do like the soundtrack ... just not the movie itself. I'm usually in the unpopular opinion pool anyway, so no big surprise here. lol

Answer -
That you are here. That life exists, and identity.

That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

The funny thing about the Beatles is that it's hard to think of them without also considering the cultural setting within which their musical impact was first felt. If you don't like ATU, that's fine with me. I just thought it did a good job of running a modern audience through the Beatles' songs while also giving some attention to the political and social backdrop of the times. It also works as an extended music video and I don't think it had any intention of doing more than touching on some issues and then moving on - it was never going to examine any single issue that closely. Of course, with one exception....

Love conquers all.

"Imagine" that!

Since I've grown up with the Beatles music and been listening to them for over 46 years,
I love everything. The 2 best albums are Rubber Soul and Revolver. Those two really
changed the direction of rock music. My main interests now are the Beatles unreleased
songs, and especially remixes and mash ups. Here are some samples:

Listen to Tomorrow Never Knows off of their Revolver album or Day in the Life off of their Sgt. Pepper's album.

These are my favorites:

Norwegian Wood
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Helter Skelter
Something
I Wanna Hold Your Hand
Twist and Shout
I Am the Walrus
I Saw Her Standing There
And Your Bird Can Sing
Blackbird

It's a pretty good variety of styles that shows the band's versatility.
