Did anybody else think this was terrible? I picked it up partly because I've actually read very little Avengers material but also because of the strength of the small amount of Brian Bendis' run on "Daredevil". I am very disappointed. I understand that they wanted to launch a continuity-light series that was easy to pick up but it just wasn't good. Minimal characterisation and not particularly exciting action do not for a good first issue make. Did anybody enjoy it?

I didn't like it. Like you said, it had little characterization, and the action wasn't exciting. Plus, I think its in continuity, but it got the Hulk wrong. I'm fairly sure he hasn't reverted to the old "Why you want hurt Hulk? Hulk just want to be left alone" level of intelligence. I wanted to like it since its a cool team, but it just wasn't good.

Yeah I hadn't even mentioned the Hulk. I admit I haven't been keeping up with the big fellow recently but it was a pretty poor handling. I don't think I'll be bothering with #2

It looked like a book for the "movie" comic fan. Didn't enjoy it at all

I thought it was okay. At first I wasn't sure it was in continuity but am kinda glad it was. I think events taking place in the Hulk currently will explain his state in the AA book.

I truly believe in giving a book more than one issue to flesh itself out. You can only fit so much into 20+ pages after all. Pluss I quite like the zodiac and look forward to seeing more of this outfit and their backstory.

On another note, now that there is a black one eyed Fury in the 616 anyone want to take a stab at how long it takes to add him to the team just to complete the movie style line up?

Just startinig this year to get back into comics this has confused me, as just read last night the 1-6 ultimates graphic novel which is clearly just Samuel L Jackson, i thought the ultimates was not 616. I can understand that the movie will not stick to cannon, but having seen some avaengers i has the non 616 replaced the 616. Plus is the ultimates not 616 or is that just the ultimate spider-man etc series and the ultimates is 616 as be Betty Ross stated that Furry used to work for her dad.

Thanks for any help :)

The whole Samuel L Jackson thing came about as the artist used a lot of character reference for the Ultimates. When the movies came around Marvel decided to take a chance on matching them up and it worked.

The Ultimate books are not 616, they are Earth 1610. There is a crossover coming up with Ultimate Spider-man/Amazing Spider-man.

Apparently (heard it mentioned a lot of times) the introduction of Fury's son was a marketing decision so that there is a 616 version of the movie Fury that can be pushed in various merchandising.

had not heard that... that's called marketing, friends!!! lol.. and here I thought the intro of Fury's kid was just done for story purpose...
thanks for the info, Spaced... if there's ever a mystery you always seem to come up with the answer.

I have to say that despite my concerns about bendis, it was a god read.

does this take place in the mainstream (earth616) universe or in the marvel cinematic universe?

It takes place in 616,it's not a sequel to the movie, just something for fans fresh out of the theaters to read.

So just finished issue 3, holy what now?!? Surely that isn't who it looks like!

Spoiler: show
If that was Thanos that would pave the way for a Nova return surely! Realistically it is probably a shapeshifter or somebody using chameleon tech.
