Blimey, that came round fast. Here's where to come to discuss all things football for the new season.

I expect Envy to be dropping in to gloat any time soon :)

Spaced, dear boy, you wound me. :P never been the gloating type, me.

obviously a very happy camper tonight, though! seems it was a weekend for stoppage-time winners where my teams were concerned - Sounders did it against Kansas on Saturday night, and of course City did it today against the 'ammers!

and in saying that, the good thing about being a Bluebird and a Sounder is that there's no lull in the action. overlapping seasons ftw!

gonna be a very different season this time round for us. whole new chapter. must admit I'm quite excited - in Malky we trust!

(...and if your boys could do me the favour of crucifying Brendan Rogers' team of inbred bastards on at least two occasions this season, I'd appreciate it!)

Watched the Cardiff/West Ham match this afternoon, was a bit of a smash & grab by your boys. But as I've always been told - only the final score counts.

Will do our best against Swansea, still reckon we're 2-3 signings short of a good squad though. Released a stupid amount of players since the end of last season and only added two.

Very disapointed with Man City's performance yesterday. We didn't play like the team that bossed them in the fa cup semi-final. Also, still a bit distraught about my local team Rushden and Diamonds going under.

How can you call football sport in which you don't use feet that much?

Yeah, this is the REAL football thread :)

Disappointing start for my lot. Suppose an away point is good business but the performance was far from stellar. It's always a bad sign when your keeper gets man of the match.

Absolutely insane amounts of money!

Associated Press wrote:
A representative for Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala has announced a deal with Inter Milan for Samuel Eto'o that should make the Cameroon striker the highest paid footballer in the world.

"We have closed the deal, and within 45 minutes there will be an official announcement," German Tkachenko told the Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday, adding that there were still some formalities to put in order — with Eto'o due to undergo a medical exam in Rome on Wednesday.

Anzhi is expected to give Eto'o a three-year contract worth €20 million ($29 million) net per season, eclipsing the estimated €12 million ($17.4 million) that Cristiano Ronaldo earns at Real Madrid and the €10.5 million ($15.2 million) that Lionel Messi is paid by Barcelona.

After a week of negotiations in Milan, the transfer fee was reportedly set at €27 million ($39 million).

Farewell Don Fabio.

BBC Sport wrote:
Fabio Capello has resigned as England manager, the Football Association has confirmed.

Capello resigned following a meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne at Wembley Stadium.

An FA statement read: "The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England manager."

More to follow.

my reaction: two thumbs up. I'd quite like the next manager to do what Capello said he would when he came in: team selections based on suitability to the tactics, not on how big the name is.

guess I might as well say something.

think that says it all, really.

(aside from the overwhelming '...', at the final, FINAL whistle. natch.)

proud, regardless.
